Second Hand Books Are Great In The Recession

Now that my kids are getting older, it’s a shame, but some of the lovely things we used to do together as a family are now non-existent.

Currently my daughter is in the middle of doing a spot of research for her history project. It wasn’t that many years ago that this would have been a trip to our local library and a huge load of books coming home with us.

Unfortunately nowadays she carries out all her research on the Internet, which for me is a real shame as I used to love our trips to the library. We were always popping in after school to see what delights could entice us.  It’s funny but even though we may have just popped in for a couple of history books low and behold before you know it you are piled up with loads of children’s books. My daughter’s record for one of her visits was a massive 18 books. Can you imagine how much they weighed when I had to walk home, but that didn’t discourage her from getting more books.

To be honest though, it wasn’t only my daughter who took advantage of the books on offer in the library.  I have been known to take out a few romance books in my time.I find it really relaxing to get stuck into a good old romantic novel and it’s great because once you have finished one bit of romance, you can return the book to the library and start on a whole new story.

In our local library they also have a section for second hand books, and you can sometimes pick up quite a bargain.I will that that the books can sometimes be a bit tatty, but really considering that they are only costing a few pennies, you can’t really expect anything else.

Much as I love the Internet and think it is really useful, it is such a shame that some of the good old things we used to do will in the not too distant future become non-existent.  I don’t think it will be many years in the future before we see a slow decline in the number of libraries in our area and I for one will be very sad about this.
