SEO and the Google Sandbox

There have been many words written online over the last few years questioning the existence or not of the infamous Google sandbox. Supposedly, when a site is new it is placed in the sandbox by Google for a specific amount of time. And while the site resides in the sandbox, it will not appear on any of Google’s top pages for its specific keywords. Some people are of the opinion that if you acquire more links to your website, you can magically escape the clutches of the sandbox, others are less inclined to believe this. The people who do disagree with this theory reckon that only with the passage of time will you escape the evil monsters clutches.

Understanding internet marketing and SEO are the key to understand the sandbox theory. Opinions may be divided over all things sandbox related, but most people will have an opinion based on experiences from the past.

Some people reckon they can achieve page one status on Google within a month of starting. They also say that they can have their site indexed within a few hours. Does this then pour cold water over the whole sandbox theory?

Nevertheless, many people believe in the sandbox and have their own reasons for doing so. First, they may not actually know how to obtain backlinks in the proper manner. This means that when their site doesn’t show up in Google they automatically think they have been sandboxed. Or they may build links too quick in the first couple of days and get a Google slap. But this slap shouldn’t be mistaken for the sandbox.

Consequently, if the sandbox is a myth, then you are probably the victim of a slap. Or does the conspiracy thicken and the sandbox is the slap, or the slap is the sandbox?
